The All Round Companion Hunter - Breeding for Soundness, Temperament, Working and Show.

My dogs happily go from sleeping on the bed .. to swimming the widest river .. to searching out feather or fur game .. to strutting their stuff in the show ring .. and back home to be lap dogs and loved pets! They have also successfully competed in agility, obedience and field trials.

My involvement with Vizslas began in 1990. A growing dedication to the breed has seen me set out to learn as much as I can. This includes joining international lists and discussing the breed with people around the world, traveling to different countries to see other dogs, importing semen and starting a national breed newsletter.

My dedication continues with an education campaign to help new people understand the breed and give an idea about breeders responsibilities. This is supported by articles I have written and had published, web pages, a VizslaNZ yahoo list and a booklet I have written on the subject (booklet available by email – just email me and ask or go to http://trader.co.nz/dogtrain/articles.htm to read this and some of my other articles).

It is exciting to see ‘my’ dogs earning their keep with the hunters, enjoying themselves in competition activities, prancing around the show ring and, most importantly, becoming loved and trusted family members for so many people.

Our first introduction to Vizsla was when we purchased Taz (Essential Gold of Hi-VIz) in 2003. We fell in love with the short hair, velvet golden coat, the eagerness to please, and the gentle yet energetic nature of our dog. We added a bitch, Ponsonby Golden Ruby. In 2012 we registered Shemariah Kennels with DOGSNZ. All our dogs are hip and elbow-scored. As a hunter I have primarily bred for the hunting fraternity, keeping the odd pup to continue our wonderful lines.

As a passionate Pedigree Jersey cow breeder, my breeding has been greatly influenced by my understanding that form dictates function. Without correct confirmation, both longevity and a physically productive life are compromised. Hence, I have established lines using Show Champion Dogs where possible. Never just using "Zac" down the road because he is an awesome hunter.
In more recent years I have endeavoured to expand the NZ bloodlines by importing semen from 3 different dogs from Europe. Again, my selection criteria has been around excellence in conformation and National or International show winnings, combined with a very strong hunting lineage and prowess.
Today we are excited to have dogs from both Quatro Magyar-Tim PP1 and Facanvadasz Ambrus, each with numerous titles in show and field and excellent health traits.
A Shemariah dog comes with confidence that they should excel in the ring and field.
We offer a lifetime of support to all our buyers. https://www.facebook.com/groups/690609638424896

Addenhund (“noble hound”) vizslas are elegant, intelligent, cooperative and fun. My vizslas are valued family members, interwoven in my life, living in my home, friends with my friends, and regularly out hunting, swimming and adventuring with me in New Zealand’s varied landscape.

I breed selectively, focusing on preserving the breed’s special characteristics of versatile hunting prowess and excellent temperament, underpinned by good health and structure. Every breeding is a carefully considered one, sometimes with top genetics from overseas, to produce quality pups with potential to be high performers in hunting and other activities, and who will bring their people many years of enjoyment.

My pups get the best possible start in life, born in my home, raised by happy healthy mothers, and then introduced to quality raw food and increasing levels of stimulation and activity on our lifestyle block. I follow a programme of neurological stimulation; exposure to various sounds, sights, smells, textures and tastes; socialisation; and introductions to deer hide, hooves, game feathers on a string and ducks. I devote my time to rearing healthy pups, with stable temperaments who are actively curious, responsive and resilient. Natural hunting ability and temperament is considered when matching pups to homes.

All enquiries about the breed are welcome, and from time to time there will be puppies available to approved homes. Please view the Addenhund website for more information.
